Sekirov Offline Dictionary (“the app”) is published on Google Play by the developer Offline English Dictionary.
The app does not collect personal data. It has no account, no ads, no analytics and no tracking, and it does not share or sell any data.
The app does not use the internet. It does not have Android’s permission to connect to the network, so nothing you do in it leaves your phone through the app.
What stays on your phone. The app keeps the words you have looked up, your training progress and your settings (such as the theme) in its private storage on your phone. No one else, including the developer, can see them. You can remove words from your list or clear the whole list on the About screen, and you can delete everything by clearing the app’s storage in Android settings or by uninstalling the app. Cloud backup is turned off for this app, so this data is not copied to your Google account. On some phones, Android’s direct phone-to-phone transfer can still copy it to a new phone.
Word of the day. If you turn it on, the app shows one notification each morning with a word from the dictionary and what it means. The app builds this notification on your phone from the dictionary that came with it, and nothing is sent anywhere. The app asks at the first launch whether you want it. It uses two Android permissions for this and for nothing else. Show notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS) lets it show the notification. Run at startup (RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED) lets it set the morning reminder again after the phone restarts, because Android clears it when the phone is switched off; the app uses it only while the notification is on. The app remembers only whether the notification is on and whether it has already asked you, in its private storage on your phone. To stop the notification, turn off Word of the day on the About screen, or turn off notifications for the app in Android settings.
Pronunciation. To say a word aloud, the app passes it to the text-to-speech engine installed on your phone. That engine is a separate app with its own privacy policy.
Google Play. The app is installed and updated by Google Play. Google may collect information about installs, and, if you allowed your device to share diagnostics with Google, crash reports, under Google’s own privacy policy. The developer sees only the aggregated statistics and crash reports that Google Play Console provides.
Installs from GitHub. The same app is also published as an APK on its GitHub release page (https://github.com/egorsekirov/offline_dictionary/releases), signed with the same Google Play key. If you installed it from there, Google Play did not install it. Because the app has no internet access, it cannot tell you about a new version: to update, install the newer APK from that page over the one you have. Everything else in this policy applies unchanged.
Children. The app is not directed at children under 13.
Changes. If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this address with a new effective date.
